Ways to Research- Process Structures
Where to Start
Searching Using Keywords
This is the hardest part! Can you make a list of keywords that, during your search, you might use? One idea: start with a simple encyclopedia article to better understand the words you might need to learn.
Puts keywords together and lets you add and delete them to change what sites you get

Checking Validity/Reliability of Sources
Consider the following questions:
* Is the author an expert in the field?
* Can the facts be triangulated (found in more than one source)?
* What organization is paying for the information to be provided? Is it an organization that has bias? Is it published on a .gov, .edu, .com website?
* When was the page updated or published? Does the topic need to be current?
Think: Would it pass the CRAP test?

Self-Selected Research Project
Expectations for Project
Research
I can choose a topic that appeals to me. I can write a focused thesis. I can find valid, quality sources pertaining to my topic. I can use my knowledge of reference books and websites to find the facts important to my topic. I can take notes (not copy word for word; important facts only). I can organize my research. I can keep track of and cite my sources. |
Speech
I can maintain eye contact with the audience. I can speak clearly, loudly, and with expression. I can speak at an appropriate rate. I can use transitions. I can use props to enhance and clarify points presented in my speech (not overtake my presentation). |
Props
I can use keywords only (6x6 rule). I can include images and graphs. I can ensure that my prop can be clearly seen and read by all in the audience. Tips for editing photos in Google |
Keeping Track
Please enter your accomplishments and effort each day in order to stay on track.
